A twist on the classic Wisconsin farmhouse includes a combination of styles: WI vernacular with east coast cottage style. The home arrangement draws from the historic farmhouse precedent: big house/ back house/barn. The plan design includes a modified 4-square main house with secondary and tertiary connecting structures to the “barn” (in this case the garage). The various structures allowed the massing of the building to break down into legible forms while not being overwhelming in scale.
A tiered design approach was used for visual interest. Vertically, the main body of the home has a lap siding base, board & batten midsection and a panel & batten gable ends. A glass enclosed service hall separates the house function from the garage.
