Over time, two buildings on the prime intersection of Watertown’s Main Street were combined for street-level commercial space with multi-family apartments above. The design concept for architectural design: competitive, disgruntled neighbors trying to one-up each other by embellishing their building’s details over time. Each building is similar, however each has it’s own character thru colors and details that are unique (the idea of organic competition over time).
Elaborate cornices, real window shutters, complex masonry details and varying colors add visual interest to the building being used for 6 apartments and 2 commercial lease spaces. Amenities enhancing the traditional Wisconsin downtown building include industrial fabricated components for balconies, entry weather canopies and signs/murals are incorporated into the building anchoring it's vital street presence.
